I was going to get married tomorrow

Tomorrow was supposed to be the happiest day of my life, the day I'd marry the woman I loved and lived with for nearly 5 years. Instead, she ended it 4 months ago and left me broken, trying to plough through with antidepressants and counselling.

How can one survive this? The meds and counselling help, but I feel like I'll never meet anyone else because I can't get over her. Most days I see no light at the end of the tunnel and I don't know how long I can hold on for like this.

I'm going through a very painful break-up myself. Our situations are different but the pain you describe, yes, I'm there too.

I wonder how I will get through. Looking at the future or even the next week or next day, and I don't know how. But the days pass and I get through. And I look for moments of grace or pleasure. I reach out on here and remind myself to acknowledge the kindness and support I get. I'm so grateful for that.

I don't think there is a "how" with regard to getting through it. I think we just do and come out the other side. We just have to recognize that we can come out better, come out worse or not come out at all. I'm working toward the first option.

Tomorrow will be so, so hard for you. Devote yourself to being kind to yourself and if you need to retreat so you can just feel your feelings, do so. But when you're done, pick yourself back up and get through so you can come out the other side. If you need us, we're here.

@Mirea Thank you for the kind words. I try to keep myself busy and I start work soon (as a teacher, no less... it'll probably leave me no free time to think about anything but Shakespeare), but today there's just this weird numb feeling mixed with sadness. I feel like you never actually get to know somebody and that trust is a very dangerous thing, so why bother trying when the person you love the most could hurt you so much.

Fellow Teacher here! I know how you feel there. I'm so sorry for your breakup. I wish I knew what to say to make you feel better. I am getting over someone at the moment myself. It's been hard, especially not having distractions this summer.

Counseling, journaling, distracting yourself, there's a lot of little things that can make the breakup a bit more tolerable.

Unfortunately the best way to get through this just time :\

@AdVictoriam Too true, I just wish time would go faster. I know it has been 4 months, but it still feels very raw.

@PorcupineQuills

You've been on my mind. Let me know how you're doing if you feel up to it.
