Lashing out

Last Friday I broke up with my boyfriend after two years due to him taking me for granted.   Though I was happy for the first few days, the last two days I have felt a lot of anger and hurt.    I am finding out that I am not in the mood to take crap from others right now.

  • I had a run-in with a colleague who was under a lot of stress herself along with being condescending.   I firmly asserted myself with her and then went to cry at my cubical
  • Then today, I attempted to talk to a few people but other people kept grabbing their attention and kept talking to people.  Things got to the point where I growled in frustration and openly said, "I keep getting interrupted."

Is this common for people who lash out at others like that when one is going through a break up?

@Summershy,

yes.

Getting angry is a part of the process while going through a breakup.

Having said that, it's not helpful to take it out on others. If you feel that you are getting angry, step out. Leave the situation. Take a short walk. Breathe. Just say you need a short break, do not just walk away.

The good thing is that you seem to be aware, afterwards. Try to be aware of your anger popping up beforehand.

@dukeofdearham  this is just another opinion. Though some people lash out anyway even if you're confused and trying to just understand

I see where you are coming from and I agree with you on the awareness part.   I also like the ideas about breathing and taking short walks.  I chose to take one this morning because there was a delay at the train station.    Though it's cold out, the sunrise and all the remaining colors on the trees were very nice.  I have also been finding time to cry.

Hey there! I'm sorry that you went through a break up. I can understand its really frustrating when other people don't get your feelings and keep on saying their own things. I know it's a tough phase currently but you'll get through it. Give yourself some time.

Sending lots of strength and love to you. ❤

@181005

When I got upset at the meeting yesterday,  I didn't talk about my ex.   Rather, I got frustrated because other people kept interrupting our conversations by grabbing the attention of the other person.

 I also got shut out of one conversation because one person kept talking to the director.   However, he had a very good reason.  When I finally had a chance to speak with the director, another person came and grabbed her attention.   Though he said sorry, I growled and openly yelled at them.   I said, "Keep getting interrupted."

@Summershy

I can understand. Getting interrupted again and again by people can be annoying. If I was in your place I would have reacted the same way. I would have gotten mad at people too.

@181005

The director and the person who interrupted me were very patronizing about it.

1. When I growled in annoyance, the interrupter said, "I'm sorry young lady?"

2. The director talked to me like a little kid  "Summer?"

Oh I see. Though they were being kind but yet they were showing like they are superior. I can understand how you would have felt. You are already facing breakup and all other people are also treating you in a not so good manner.

Don't worry dear. We're all here for you to vent and to make you feel better❤.

The other person who interrupted the conversation was also very patronizing . When I growled, it was “I am sorry young lady.” Excuse me?

I don’t care for the interactions that I have had with this new director. She’s honestly kind of annoying, but I love her sister.

@Summershy,

if someone interrupts you, it's OK to say "sorry but I was talking, let me finish first". Otherwise you'll just have to wait your turn. Or speak to the director later, one on one. Yelling is not a good idea. Did you apologize for that, maybe to the director, saying you had a bad day and took it out on others. A decent director will appreciate that.

@Summershy

It sounds like you are becoming more empowered... that's great

As it happens tho, you might "overstep" sometimes and lash out at people who don't necessarily deserve it. Don't worry, it's sort of trial and error and you will find a balance
