My baggage from my ex is affecting my new relationship.
So basically I was with this girl for 10 years, we were common law married called each other wife and hubby and had plans to get married with a ceremony eventually. We had a toxic co dependent relationship, and towards the end of it when I was working two jobs to support us both she made friends with some guy on a game on her phone. Started connecting with him since I wasn't home very often, ended up cheating on me with him over the phone while we were still together and living together. Then decided she wanted to leave me but still have me take care of since she didn't have a job. She destroyed me mentally and emotionally. She still tries to come back into my life ever now and then.
But now I'm in a new relationship with a girl that's very different from my ex, she's better in a lot of ways and she shows me love and she shows me she cares. But I'm afraid she might cheat on me too, and no matter what I do I can't get rid of the feeling. And I feel like I might ruin my chance at something good if I can't learn how to trust her. Can anyone help?
I think that being cautious is normal after being cheated on and tell your ex to back off for good like say your tell the police for harassment or something and as for you new girl enjoy being with her and be happy with her and show her you care and be honest with her about this if you want because that’s what makes a good relationship honesty and caring and just do what you normally do dont let your ex change who you are :3
Also hope you will feel mentally and physically better after the incident with your ex
@GlooKal Are you able to go to counseling to work on processing the trauma from your past relationship? It sounds like that is now affecting your relationship going forward. If counseling is hard to access, maybe you can do some self help like look into cbt thought reframing exercises. I have an app called Thought Diary I use for that that has helped me.
