Recent breakup
So I kinda messed up, overreacted to an argument, and broke up with my ex. I really didn’t want to break up with him, I just played into my emotions and acted immature. He did it once to me before but this was the first time I’ve done it to him. I’ve texted him 3 days in a row apologizing and owning up to the fact that I was wrong and he hasn’t said anything back to me yet. I’m pretty sure he didn’t block me because it keeps saying that my messages are delivered. I haven’t tried to call, I feel like that might be too pushy and if he just wants some time like I hope he does I don’t want to chase him off. We talked everyday for the past 10 months and now it’s weird that I’m not hearing anything from him. That’s never happened before, we’ve never missed a day. I impulsively hanged my status to single while he impulsively hanged his to it’s complicated, does that mean that he’s leaving it open to be able to talk to me again even as just friends?
@CatNation sounds complicated, I understand how weird it feels not having a certain part of our day like the one before it feels ritualistic at times hmm?
It is so nice that you owned up and apologized and yep it seems like giving space could be a feasible option
maybe just let him know you're apologetic and want to make things better and that he can reach out when he wants , you'll be patient or something that assures him a little?
I hope you get to talk soon 💕
Thank you for responding, I’ve texted him everyday for the past 3 days apologizing and telling him that I’m not trying to move on or anything. There’s a few things he’s said in the past that make me hopeful and he still has a few of my things that he knows I’d want back if we split. And he’s always been really big on being polite, even when I acted out he was still very polite about it.
@CatNation that's nice really and I hope things look for you both
@CatNation. I am my self going through something very similar. I acted out of emotions to how I was being treated mentally. I keep calling, texting. He is just reading my messages. And when he does reply! It’s like what I did outweighs what he did. And he has rude mean things to say. I wish I could give you advice but I have none for myself. But I do know this. If that person is for you maybe they do need a little time. But it’s better for a person to say that then just ignore you. Cause if your mind is anything like mines! It leaves wondering and that’s torture! And I feel that may be the only some men know how to hurt back. By going silent. And not trying to work out the problem as a team.
@CatNation
I’m sure you both just need time to put things into perspective. If someone is important to us and our relationship with them is genuine, then they are still important to us even if they do the wrong thing and make mistakes. You’re going to disagree about things occasionally and you’ve acknowledged that you didn’t behave well and apologised for your reaction.
Although one thing you both might consider is not resorting to abandonment as a solution to your relationship problems, as each time we do this we undermine our partner’s faith in our relationship and in our commitment. It sends the message that if the relationship gets difficult they would rather just leave than resolve differences, and over time this will have the effect of mutual distrust in partners.
Be patient and tell him every day what he means to you even if he doesn’t respond. Focus on your positive feelings, not the negative emotions (such as guilt, anger, pain, frustration). This is not to say that you should ‘act like nothing is wrong’, but rather that you should focus on the ways you want to make things better. Arguments often bring people closer together if their hearts are in the right place when resolving their differences with patience, a desire for understanding, and love.
