Still not over my ex after 2 years

We dated for 2 n half years. I think that it was the first time i have actually loved someone. I am 29 yo and ive had multiple relationships but my most recent ex was the one i thought i could marry. She broke up with me, she loved me byt wasnt in love anymore, the classic story. She moved on pretty quickly and is now dating a former friend. I forgave her and forgave myself, I let her go because i didnt want her to be unhappy with me, but although she seems happier i cannot say the same for myself. Im on my quest to become a better version of myself, but sometimes I find myself thinking about her. Why does it take so long to get over somebody? Anybody here got any words of comfort or has gone through the same?

@Ozzy13 I am sorry to hear about it Ozzy. I understand your thoughts and agree even if one let it go and made peace with past, still at times one end up thinking about them. Probably it is due to the memories and moments we had with them. We can't forget them, we just learn to live with it and focus to create some other memories and live with that. Still, at times now and then one can think about the past and people associated with them. It's natural I guess and you are not alone who have this feeling. We all have somewhat same experiences.

Probably we just need to embrace it and focus on our life goals? Hope you feel better. We all are with you. Thank you for reaching out and sharing your thoughts with us.

@Ozzy13

Well you create routines and expectations in relationships. There's this bond that is linked to so many other factors, is normal people struggle to move on.

She didn't feel love anymore, so was easy for her. You did, so you must feel somehow betrayed (maybe I'm wrong, if I am say so).

What's important to remember is that she is an ex for a reason. It wasn't in the plans for stuff to move forwards. Clinging to this, to this person, will only bring you more and more towards feeling sad. You have to be careful because this type of thoughts can be addicting, and they're not good for your self esteem , mental health and even future relationships.

Just remember there's someone out there perfect for you. Sounds super cliche but I promise you is true. But you have to allow yourself to move on. Once you're confortable and happy with just yourself, then that wonderful person will come along and complete that part of you that is missing.
