Stuck
I often feel trapped in my marriage, but neither one of us could survive financially by ourselves. Also, he has multiple disabilities and needs me to take care of him.
I would love my own life, but I couldn't live with the guilt of leaving him. He's gained weight since we've been married and it's made it harder for him to take care of himself.
He often apologizes, but he treats me terribly and admits that he mostly just needs me to do things for him. I don't know what to do.
Sounds like a very rough situation.
Your own sense of guilty certainly can trap you. It makes us sometimes wish we could be emotionless and cold (or maybe just me).
I still think your concerns are valid and someone being disadvantaged and needing help doesn't of course give them the right to treat others poorly. (Stating the obvious)
Do you have family or friends you have discussed this with or perhaps there is something prevent that, seeing how you are on this app.
May i ask what is the terrible treatment?

@dysfunctionjunction,
I'm truly sorry for what you are going through. This guilt can be overwhelming and difficult to see through. You deserve better than this and honestly sounds like you’re being abused in return for your kindness and selflessness. He does not deserve you, and you need to live for you not for him. I know it is easier said than done but you should not have to be his caregiver in addition just because you are married. There are programs for caregivers to come and help him. It is natural to feel trapped and if you financially can’t leave right now you need to find someone else to take care of him or resentment will keep building up on both ends and is not fair to you. Do some research on in home supportive services , these things can get covered by the state in most cases so you would not have to pay out of pocket. Wishing only the best for you, you deserve better 💕
