Stuck over my ex boyfriend.
Hello,
I recently just turned 17. I met my ex when I was in the sixth grade. He became my best friend. After about a year we started dating. We were fine for a while then we both started to fight a lot. I wasn't the nicest person all the time. After about two and a half years we thought we would be over. We somehow put up with fighting every day to make it to 3 1/2 years. People tend to think I know so much about relationships but I'm clueless. Clearly, because my ex and I broke up I don't know too much. Me and him have been talking for 8 months and he recently decided getting back together was a bad idea. I don't want to move on. Mainly because I isolated myself to spend all my time with him. Therefore, I don't know how to move on. Anyone else understand the feeling or have any advice?
@Kaitlyn2323 This seems to be a commonality in many relationships these days, for people to lose themselves and not understand their own identity once they break up. This happened to me too, so you're not alone. It was so devastating to me that I have decided to take all the time I need to be single, to piece together my whole self, before I think about another romantic relationship. But this approach doesn't work for everyone - it has just been my personal preference. I floundered for many months and was glad to have my job to keep me busy, but my evenings and weekends were pretty empty. I rediscovered my passion for writing and eventually found my way to this site. Helping people is another passion of mine. So I would suggest trying some new things or maybe doing things you loved before he came along. Your whole life doesn't have to be your hobbies or what you do for a career, but they can unlock pieces of you that you didn't realize were there. They are great for becoming reacquainted with who you are. And I don't know if you have any religious or spiritual beliefs, but I came to know myself through my study of them, too. Pick up whatever resonates with your soul. I wish the answer could be a bit more straightforward, but then you'd miss out on the incredible journey of not knowing. ;) Hang in there!
@CompassionateGirl90
Thank you for such kind words. I also appreciate you letting me know things will get better.
@Kaitlyn2323 They definitely will. Let me know if you'd ever like to chat. xoxo
@CompassionateGirl90 thanks am trying to do the same thing now
I'd just like to second the idea that yes, it certainly is bad now and you may feel overwhelmed by all the emotions are the loss of the relationship that you've had for such a long time. It's natural to feel a little confused after such a big change. But I do think that you will get better and emerge stronger because of your experience!
@EvanViolet
Thank you. :)
