Was breakup really the right and the only way?

So yesterday I broke up with her and one of the reason that made me break up with her was that I wasn't feeling the same way I used to. Atleast i thought I did not. So from a few months now we have not been talking much cause we were busy and we haven't been able to meet due to circumstances but we still were in a relationship and loved each other but as time passed by I felt out of love and from some past weeks I felt totally out of love so I thought maybe meeting would help and we met and spent some time together but I just couldn't see her the same way as I used to and I have been thinking about it and I was delaying it so that I don't break up with her at a bad time but I couldn't bear to "decieve" her anymore as it was going to be 2 year anniversary of our relationship. So yesterday I gathered the guts and finally broke up with her, i explained it all to her and she didn't show much emotion in chat but ik she was crying at that time and I didn't think I would cry too but I did. So after we broke up at night i regretted alot for doing this and i realised how close and perfect we were. We were each others everything and i realised I do love her even if it's not as much as I did and I longed for her and yea it hasn't even been a full day right now. But now I have ruined it all. If I want to go back to her, I know for sure she will come back but I am scared for hurting her anymore and I feel like I myself am not sure of my feelings. This was my first relationship and it was the absolute best i could have asked for. I am now confused about my feelings and whether i should really go back to her and what if I feel out of love again and hurt her twice. She did so much for me and this was what I did, I feel the worst right now. Please guide me what should I do.this was my first time falling in love and so I have no idea how to confirm my feelings, my mind just goes blank.

@honestTiger1943

I think after a breakup we start to think "hey i could have made it work" ... It could get better but in the end as you say if you got back out of fear of starting new and having to find someone and your feelings were not there sooner or later you will want to break up again.    People can  get these type regrets if they give notice on a job ... as the end is near some think "hey this is familiar and comfortable not sure i want to move on"  ... "i could find ways around the reasons i left" .... that seldom works either.

Ask yourself ... how long could you pretend to have feelings you do not have?

What would you do if someone else came along that you had strong feelings for and you feel  stuck in a  pretend relationship?

If you really look at it few are with their first relationship forever that is rare and you had a positive first relationship so when you do start a new one you have ideas of what you want and do not in a relationship.

Being unsure it's a No. Heart and body already know that.

We're in a state of abstinence when we cut ties with someone close. Over time and without contact chemicals and the brain will calm down. The need to run to the familiar will dissappear.
