What if it’s all my fault?

Hey. I just need to get this off my chest. I feel trapped without anyone to speak with. Long story short, my husband and I are trying to be separated but still in the same house for our kids. He finally revealed to me that he’s had years of insane credit card debt and it feels like a huge gut punch because I cover most of the family expenses. He’s been spending his money on him and gambling. He’s been my best friend of 10 years, and now I feel friendless. I feel like I’m waking up in a nightmare and there’s no one there to turn to. My family doesn’t really like him and we’ve grown distant with them so I feel like they will see it as my fault for not discovering this financial ruin sooner. My friends are mostly his friends or hollow friendships. Like I think if I told any of them I’d get one of two responses: either, “Wow that sucks..” then go talk about me behind my back for being pathetic. Or, they would say it’s not that big of a deal and to get over it. Money issues are common in marriages. I feel like it is my fault and I wish I could pretend it isn’t happening. I should have known.

My big question is this- Do I let my husband still come on a family trip with my family or make up a reason for him not to come? Does that make me more of a monster for denying him seeing his kids on this special weekend?

@easyBranch9393

tell him to stay home or whatever ... does he have a plan to dig out of debt or is he just laying it on you......

i know it feels sometimes like how could i NOT see this or that but really you cannot blame yourself.... when people have relationship problems many friends become hollow as they do not know which way things will go and want to stay as neutral as possible....

is he doing any recovery like gamblers anonymous.

Well, I’ve been in a relationship that lasted us for 18 years together. We started having different feelings when I got deployed and she couldn’t cope anymore.

Relax you mind and pray for the best to happen, life isn’t a bed of roses and we all have a story to tell. Try to listen to your heart and follow it with no regrets.
