Well, for me that depends. What time of year is it? What activity are we doing during or immediately after the choice of candy or popcorn? And, of course, can we pick both!??
If we are going to a movie or even a movie at home - POPCORN!
If it is Halloween and Trick-or-Treating - Candy!!!!
Unless .... 
Are there popcorn balls available 
(which for my family is usually the case around Christmas time) ... then Popcorn balls win over any other type of popcorn. and Popcorn balls definitely defeat Candy ... in the line up of preferred snacks according to Platy

If it's gummy candy like Swedish fish or sour patch or gummy worms then candy. If not then popcorn
Sometimes I like to eat a piece of candy and popcorn in the same bite-a gummy bear with popcorn tastes good.
Why choosing all the time? I have two hands, with one i stuff myself with popcorn, with the other I stuff myself with candy.
