Hello everyone. I've joined this thread in part because I am in a marriage that is very difficult, but which I have no intention of leaving. I don't really have friends anymore in whom I feel comfortable condfiding (anyone I would call a friend is either from college 20+ years ago, a former professor or someon with whom I've worked). I talk to my mother and I have amazing support from my family; I also have a therapist who I do not see nearly enough, but even she has begun to hint that we don't seem to get anywhere discussing my relationship with my husband since (of course) he isn't likely to change. I don't expect him to change, but every once in a while it all gets to be too much for me and I need to talk it through. I really wonder if there might be others out there who could share similar experiences, and the thought that there could be gives me hope.

Hi.

I'm struggling with my marriage too. The problem I have is my husband is an amazing person. Excellent dad and supportive loving husband. But then why do I feel something's missing? I've been with him 18 years, and miss being with someone new. Miss being in love, feeling the excitement. Is this to do with my depression??? I've heard people try and use excitement / affairs to mask the emptiness they feel??? So confused right now. Seeing a counsellor to try and figure this all out ( have issues with my family too ) but it's a long, slow process.

Here for you if you want to talk.xxxx

Hi! I hate to admit this, but Ive only just found where I posted this, so Ive just seen your reply, weeks later. I have felt the way that you do and I understand. One time it was particularly acute, and that was almost 20 years ago. I was so restless. I had just started graduate school and I was in a long term relationship with someone I loved very much. I had this feeling that there was more to life than this, and in particular that there was another life waiting for me overseas. Eventually I did move overseas. I ended up marrying a total idiot from the country in which I was studying, bringing him back home, having a baby, and divorcing him. Im remarried now, but from where Im standing it was a poor decision to have ever left the first man I mentioned.

I also tend to get this feeling, this craving for excitement and new, romantic love whenever I am pregnant or sometimes when I have a newborn.

I cant help but to think that the craving for excitement usually happens when we are already in a pretty good place. When we have a bit of stability—when we are tethered to good things—it gives us the space to contemplate our own mortality. Then we can feel like we are missing a window of opportunity, running out of time for that fairytale to happen. I feel like the restlessness is borne of anxiety over time passing us by.

Good Morning, everyone! I've joined this group because I'm struggling in my marriage. I feel like we are in a constant cycle of extreme ups and downs. Just when I decide I can't take anymore, I'm pulled back in. I don't have very many friends so advice and conversation is scarce. It's very emotionally and mentally taxing to deal with it alone so I figured I'd join up here.

Hi.

Totally feel for you.

Posted above too. My marriage is okay, but one minute I want a divorce, the next I don't. So many issues with myself though, don't want to throw my marriage away for the wrong reasons.

Kids involved too, so all very confusing.

I completely understand and sympthasise with what you're going through.

Here if you want to message me.

Xxx
