I look for the ability to have open, honest communication. I've been in relationships where I am trying to protect them from the truth of what I feel, and I've been in relationships where they feel the need to protect me from their truth (even regarding their own bodily autonomy). I need to be with someone that I don't feel I need to protect from the truth, and who doesn't feel like I need protection from whatever they are thinking or feeling.
