20 Signs of a Narcissist or Psychopath
Readers,
We've all had unstable relationships in our lives, but what happens when this instability becomes plainly harmful or abusive? The following article examines 20 Signs or Symptoms of a Narcissistic Personality Used to Silence You:
These types of people often exude shape shifting, goalpost moving, and destructive expectations for their loved ones. Additionally, emotional degradation and name calling are not unusual. Often you will see circular reasoning, a casting of blame, and repetitive attacks on your interpersonal social circles affecting your sense of community, reputation, and selfhood. Despite your best efforts to meet these expectations, communicate your needs, or take accountability, these people will continue to find reason to be dissatisfied in their relationship with you. They will attempt to control and manipulate the actions, thoughts, and feelings of the other person. When this sense of control is lost, hypocritical tantrums are often the result. This is important because when abuse and threats are no longer verbal and become physical- we are putting ourselves at risk for grave consequences. This happens more often than you might think.
Please read the above article and share which situations you have experienced in your personal life. How did you react to this? Or- perhaps some of you are currently entangled in this type of relationship. How do you feel about what you read?

@blitheSun94 Hi Sun! This is an amazing post, and a very important topic to discuss and bring more attention to. It is very sad that many people suffer from such individuals and/or experiences. I had an individual in my life who used many of these tactics on me, such as gaslighting, projection, and conversations from hell, and it tore me down completely. I took the abuse for a long time, but it brought me into severe depression, made me suicidal, and negatively impacted my health immensely. And so, I left and cut off all ties with this individual in order to get help, build myself up to be stronger, and continue living my life peacefully and happily. This individual still tries to impact me and my life negatively, but now more individuals are realizing what this person has been doing to me all this time. I feel that the article provides great explanations and answers for those who experience these situations with narcissists so that they know that they are not alone, they are not crazy, and they can get out of this.
@SaimaK Thank you Saima
@SpruceRaven No problem, but thank you for sharing this and creating this post. :)
@SaimaK
hi I read your post I feel like I am dealing with a crazy making husband. And I
@blitheSun94 Yes this was /is my brother. I answered yes to every category. I stayed in relationship to/ "with"? him for far too long & in mnay ways undermined for myself my chances at my own life. He has everyone believing his story. So even knowing the story continues...i finally walked away. I lost everyone I knew.
@blitheSun94 ... to this day, he is the golden boy. Any attempt to be heard believed seen as not crazy etc on my part has only resulted in more damage to me and my reputation.... community wide. I so deeply mourn that I did not sever ties with him much much sooner. I lost/ gave away an entire life.
And it feels very unsafe to have shared that. Espec since no one responded.
I don't think I will ever be more than a hermit now scraping by at the edges of society. I had alot to offer once but it's too late. Even here.
@SpruceRaven I am responding. I get it. I had to let unhealthy people go in 2017, including a friend of 20 years and all the friends she walled me off from. This year, it's my husband and his family who are backing him. Since they were my only family, it is very painful. However, they have a long history of enabling their children (his brother hasn't worked in ten years and is bankrolled by his parents), so he will probably live in the filthy basement we lived in until they kick him out, which they probably won't do until they sell the house. I am already in a better place. :)
@elvenjewel Thsnks so much for your response and for sharing some of tour own story.
I'm so glad you are already in a better space. I think I am too though therr is alot of old gunk still to clear out, let go of reframe.
Got horribly triggered the other day...ironically just after celebrating some positive progress.
Usually there is an exponentisl leap in growth or healling after a huge flashback and dissociation like that .....🙄
We'll see.
I'm vwry glad to have met yu Elven...or is it Jewel.
Unfortunately, I will be deactivating SpruceRaven so that I can go forward in another way. Please don't feel unsupported or abandoned by this. I am grateful tp you for holding out your hand and I will keep good thoughts for you. I hope too that you are finding support here. This a wonderful place in msny many ways amd rich in resource. Best wishes to and for you.
@SpruceRaven I am glad to have met you too, and wish you the very best. :)
@elvenjewel Thsnk you Jewel. I regret that we didn't get to talk more. Wish you well!
@blitheSun94
Thank you!
Found this list in a posted on another sight, too good to pass up for a share. Was and is so spot ont to what happened to me, scary.
Lying. She knows what she did was wrong and she knows your reaction is reasonable.
Manipulating. She's making you look like the bad guy for objecting to her cruelties.
Being selfish. She doesn't mind making you feel horrible as long as she gets her own way.
Blaming. She did something wrong, but it's all your fault.
Projecting. Her petty, small and childish behavior has become yours.
Putting on a self-pitying drama. She's a martyr who believed the best of you, and you've let her down.
Parentifying. You're responsible for her feelings, she has no responsibility for yours.
@neonPrune8629 This is my soon to be ex-husband to a T. Everything fits. His parents are not far behind. Out of a large family I left, ONE niece contacted me and asked what happened. Everybody else is complicit; his brother unfriended me; and no one is saying anything. All because *I* had the temerity to flee an abuser! Oh well; not the first shitshow I have been through. :(
What is the definition of a psychopath exactly? Is it clearly identifiable?
@sympatheticPenguin6353 Here is a link that might help, there are others that pop up on Anne McCrea's site Narcissistic and Emotional Abuse. Here is the link: https://www.psychopathfree.com/articles/30-red-flags-of-manipulative-people.212/

Narcissist will seek attention to get supplies. They will try to get attention from those who are unaware of their toxic traits or old supplies. They will get the positive attention before their poisonous cunning character are revealed.
