3 Tips To Boost Mental Health
You cant tell just by looking at someone what they are dealing with inside. —Danielle Rupp
Many of us are constant jugglers. Managing studies, work, social life, family, friendships and relationships. We all want to balance all the areas so that everything goes smooth.
But, it does not happen because in real life, due to one or other occurrences, there is a disbalance and as a result, we feel overwhelmed.
Feeling overwhelmed can be debilitating and causing a lot of stress and impact our mental health. And as a result, it affects how we deal with our relationships.
Let me give you an example,
You are frustrated due to work pressure and you vent that frustration during a small disagreement with your partner.
You broke up with your partner and due to the feelings you experience cuts the connection with friends or family.
Had an argument with partner in the morning and released that anger on your subordinates or colleagues at the workplace.
You find an outlet to release the feeling you experiencing but still after releasing you do not feel great as you released it in a wrong way. And, thinking of it, leads to more stress.
So, what could we do to deal with the feeling of being overwhelmed or stressed?
1. Focus on being present in the moment -
When you are overwhelmed, the mind is filled with spiraling thoughts. And it constantly questioning, "What if...?" But rather than focusing on potential consequences, take a moment of being present. Take a comfortable breathe and focus on what is happening to you right at the moment?
2. Set Priorities -
When you are stressed or overwhelmed, everything seems like a priority. From finishing the presentation to attending a family gathering to answering a phone call. But, as you cannot do everything at once, you need a strategy. The strategy of setting clear priorities. If you finding difficulty in setting priorities, you may learn and try the Eisenhower Matrix.
When you know what should be done in the first place and what can wait for a while, you could able to focus and finish it well.
3. Take a break and embrace self-care and self- love ways -
When you feel like things are not going the way you want them, take a short break. Step away from what you doing and relax. It may sound unproductive and causing a delay in your work, but considering the consequences of being overwhelmed and stressed and how it could affect the relationships you have, it is good to have a break of few minutes.
In that short break, do what you easily can. Maybe have a short walk, or journaling, talking with someone you are comfortable with, or just enjoying a cup of coffee while looking outside from your office room's window.
They could bring some relief from being overwhelmed and stressed and help you to have a healthy mental health and relationships.
