Fear of Dying Alone
I have been single for over 6 months now...this is the longest I have ever been single since I started dating (I am in my early 30's)
I do really like some aspects of being single: I live in my own apartment for the first time ever, I've discovered who I am as an individual, I can do what I want when I want...but every once in awhile I get this anxiety-fuelled fear that I am going to end up dyign alone (Yes I have friends and family, but I am talking romantically) I know that I dont need a man to complete me, but I DO want one beside me as I go through life. I am shy but I am trying to put myself out there...I am trying the online dating thing which can be very depressing at times..talkign to someone, its going well and then all of a sudden they disappear. If I DO manage to meet them person, I am either not attracted to them, or it seems to go well at the time but sort of fizzles out before anything more happens. I know that means they clearly were not the right person for me...but I just feel like I am never going to find 'THAT' person....and I know I will not settle, so I wont date just anyone...for the first time ever I am being picky instead of jumping into a long term relationship with someone Im sort of happy with (but is an alcoholic, or has anger issues, etc etc) I just feel like any time I match with someone I think 'whats the point...its not going to work out in the end any way for one reason or another'....I do know that a negative outlook is not good but its so hard to remain positive when Im not getting anything positive (even temporary positive) out of it.
I just feel like I am never going to find someone that I want to be with, who actually wants to be with me as well
Also I know it may sound lame, but I REALLY miss having someone to cuddle with on the couch and such. I can't even find someone for that haha
I just needed to get this out. Im feeling really down and defeated by it all today
@Pixie13 First off let me say that dating is hard! It takes patience, motivation, selectiveness, hope, and overcoming fear to undergo the process. The fact that you are trying and have joined online dating sites says a lot! The anxiety you feel is pretty common. It is hard to see a future with someone when you are currently single. I'm glad to hear that you are being selective and are willing to put in the work to find someone who is a good fit for you. The good news is that for most people they do find a person who they are comfortable with and who adds to their life. I know that six months may feel like forever, but it is a really a short period of time. I also know that the statement I just made does not prevent the anxiety from rearing its head! There are some coping skills that can help relieve this immediate anxiety as well as some other skills to help with stored stress and anxiety. I wish you well and hope that you find the support and help you need here! :)
