Here's my take on trust in relationships ...

In any kind of relationship, whether it is friendship or otherwise ... the time it takes to build trust could take as long, or longer than building a glass sculpture. Do you want to know how much time it takes to BREAK that trust?

It takes ages to build trust and just seconds, or fractions of them, to break it. Putting together the pieces of a broken glass statue can take even longer than it took to build it up in the first place, and sometimes ... it can never be rebuilt.

@AbbyHarris1976 Hey hey, Abby heart Glad to see you with a new thread.

What a thoughtful thread! Thank you for posting this.

I agree with you. Trust is a key to any relationship but it takes ages to built and seconds to poof. Because your past experiences make it difficult for us to put ourselves out there as we are. Because we do not know who the person is, what are their intentions, what will be the consequences and so on.

So, it takes time to build trust. But when someone breaks it, we get back to square one and a lot of questions pop up in the mind.

Here I would like to tag my community mates and looking forward to listen to what they think.

Hey Obs 💕💕

Thank you for putting your taglist here 😊

This is so true and I wrote this because I always seem to find myself in situations where I try to be kind, and do what I can to hang on to a friendship but many of those end up in them not taking the friendship as seriously or thoughtfully as I do ... and then gaslighting me when I get upset about it. 🙄 The other thing too is that will give some excuse that they have to go away but will then be in a chat room with a different username and Im like ... huh?! 🙄 That ends up turning into them ghosting me and also lying about it. 🙁 So, in those instances, Im just gonna walk away before I can get hurt any further ...

I agree with you Abby! Trust takes years to build, but only a second to break.

That's quite true. It takes a long time to build trust and it continues to build up as time goes by and we know the person a little better. So if this trust is toyed with and broken it hurts terribly and it cannot be placed again to it's full extent.

But we are all human, so sometimes trust Can be gained back, if the people involved are so committed to it. So I feel it comes down to what two people want, whether they want a trustworthy relationship and whether they are ready to work at it. At least that's how my life has been..

Agree. My husband and I are working through our problems after a separation, and I'm finding that rebuilding trust is in some ways more connecting since trust the first time was easy...now it is a conscious choice. Neither of us cheated or anything like that, but it's more a rebuilding of emotional trust (for me) that I can confide in him and he will listen and not turn it around into an attack. For him, I'm not sure but maybe it's trusting that even when I'm disappointed or unhappy, I'll still love him.

@peacefulforest75

I understand that and you are correct in saying that it is a conscious choice that one can make. There are so many people in my life that I would have forgiven and worked out my relationship with but there are so few who actually reciprocate to it. It actually makes me appreciate it more. I'm happy that you two are working at it out and hope the best for you.

That statue reminds me of the movie called "Joshua" where the one lady throws the glass figure down and ask him to put the pieces together.

I was in a relationship for 8 years and the last year was rocky because he want physical intimacy that I could not give him. I felt he truly did not understand my pain. I found out that years later I had fibroids and pcos. Its been hard for me to trust anyone after that.
