Hi, my names Gavin. I'm currently writing an Ebook on self-help that will be avaliable sometime next year. All my followers will receive a free copy, so if your interested go ahead and do so.

This will teach you how to deal with a breakup, and how to avoid becoming devastated in the future. Your probably asking if that's possible...

How to Safely go into a Relationship:

#1) Be happy before entering the relationship. If you are depressed, or are in a difficult stage in your life I don't recommend finding a partner. Why? If you are not happy you will seek happiness, if you seek happiness to much on this person you put to much on them. (This will be covered later.)

#2) Understand what a relationship is. I'm sure your thinking that's a dumb question? But, it's different than you think. Many relationships will not last, very few will make it to the end the first time... Meaning many married couples have broken up once before. It's inevitable to avoid because for most people it will happen. Remember to have fun in the moment and know that in your head it's temporary. Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

#3) Control your dependency... Let's clarify what dependency is first. Dependency is relying on someone or something to much. An extreme example would be someone who abuses alcohol, an alcohol abuser can't go long without alcohol... If they do they become depressed, tired, anxious. That's the same thing with a relationship that is dependent on someone.

How do I become less dependant?

I recommend that you spend more time doing other things and find some hobbies. It's important not to spend 100% of your time with them, otherwise beyond your will you will indeed become dependant.

Below here, I have devised a scale under my own research and qualitative studies a list of scales.

a.) They consume 10-25% of your life. This means 75%-90% of your life is focused on other things. My personal example is that I want to become a paramedic and than a doctor. I volunteer on here, and at a cancer treatment center.

b.) 26%-45% This is where things become a problem. This person now has the possibility to ruin your entire week. But make your entire week as well. Keep in mind that these are examples. This goes from healthy to unhealthy.

c.) 45%-100%. This is where it's a major problem. This person now has complete control of your life to a point. I've personally been around the 80% range myself, so let me say I understand when people say it's devastating. This person can ruin the next several months by a breakup. This goes from unhealthy to severe.

Some people may safely fall under b. category, but from my experience I advise against it. Let me know if you guys have any comments or suggestions, this is a piece of my book that I am writing.

Please keep in mind this is for general relationships, in no way shape or form can I account for them all.

Thanks for the post! this is really helpful. I would like to add one, might be a personal idea, but somewhat true. I found that becoming friends first for a few months is a good way to avoid being hurt. As friends, you can know each other's ideas, values, even their secrets, so when you are in a relationship later, you will find it acceptable that the other one acts certain ways-- even in the ways you don;t appreciate.
