@Helping2findAway I agree with you 100%! All the relationships I have had that are based on open communication and a REAL sense of respect have been truly fantastic connections. They last longer and are much more fulfilling to participate in.
Thanks for a great thread and some interesting food for thought!

@Helping2findAway Yes, I agree with you as well! In fact, there is actually a theory called the "triangular theory of love" (see here), which basically states that love is made up of intimacy, passion, and commitment. The longest-lasting, more impactful kind of love includes all three. Love that is just about physical attraction, or just about big displays of affection, or just about friendship, is not enough. I think communication and understanding plays a big part in all three of those aspects. Trust and respect, especially, are the pillars of all love. It's great that you've found this insight!

@Helping2findAway

If only the key to relationships was this simple, perhaps there would be a lot less break-ups and divorce would be significantly less. There isn't a one size fits all for healthy marriages and relationships. There are core components though - which I think you're beginning to touch on, but I find this post underdeveloped and very misleading to people that are looking for answers, pathways to happiness, and mending damaged relationships.

I see the spirit behind your post - I do, but I think that to make statements like this can be harmful - even though I know this is not the intent of your posting. You mean well, I get it.

Relationships are complicated because people are complicated.

I would certainly agree with you that communication and respect are certainly key core component parts of a healthy relationship - but that is barely scratching the surface. I'd love to see this post developed further into something more well rounded - so perhaps you could expand on your initial thoughts.
