I could understand that at times we become clingy. Whenever your partner after a point start withdrawing and not as active as earlier, you feel that you becoming clingy. With the time it could even get worse. So to deal with it, you could possible try few ways that probably help you to break this habit.
There probably be the time when either you or your partner would need "Me" time. They may be seeking their space and privacy. So if you recognized such needs, it would be nice to act up as mature adult and allow them the "Me" time. We all needs own time at varied intervals.
Being clingy you may want that they come and join you in your battles. However it couldn't be possible all the time, so probably better to continue to face your struggles and battles on your own rather than being depended on them and their support all the time.
Have a healthy social life could help you to deal from being clingy. Maybe your partner wont be around all the time for you when you be feeling lonely or bored and want to have a conversation. So in those times, you could switch to social life and have conversations with your friends or do activities that you enjoy doing most. It could help you to feel better.
Try them and see if it could help you deal with being clingy.
