Am I overly invested?
I started dating this guy and he is really very sweet, a bit goofy and immature but very nice and fun to be around. But he seems not to make me a priority. We aren't in a relationship but he will make plans and cancel at the last minute because he doesn't have the gas money (even though he spent easily 50 dollars on impulse buys the day before he was excited to share with me.) I only get one day a week to really see him for any length of time besides maybe grabbing a cup of coffee after work once a week and it's like things keep coming up that he prioritizes over seeing me. But he seems so happy to see me and spend time with me when we do have time together. I'm just confused. Should I tell him it's bothering me or should I stop making him a priority and make him put in the work? I just don't want to be the only one putting any effort into the dating thing all over again..
It's possible he's just not thought about much. it's probably a trait of his that will continue to bother you even long term. Is that a deal breaker? It's possible that if you give him space he might take action too.
