Have Kurdish/Turkish boys got to marry who there father chooses? Or can they marry who they want?
me and my boyfriend spoke yesterday and he said he can’t be with me because his dad doesn’t want him to be with me as I am English and not Muslim and his father hasn’t chosen me. He said he has to marry who his dad chooses, I might be a religion thing or just tradition but I think my boyfriend should be able to marry who he wants. I just want to know if he has got a choice in who he marries and if I was to convert would he be able to marry me?
@niceWriter1019 hmm that sounds so rough. Would you really feel comfortable converting to his religion? Maybe if it was something you really felt interested in but idk. I feel like his response is pretty upsetting. If it was me, I would be pretty upset my partner wouldn't stand up for me at least a little bit, like offering for you to meet his dad and trying to get to know each other or something.
Tough one. Culture and religion can make people very narrow minded.
It is up to your boyfriend to decide whether he follows his heart or his upbringing.
True love should never take any upbringing into account.
And converting to a culture or religion just to meet standards that are alien to you is not a good idea. It would be like selling out.
If your boyfriend sticks to his point of view, you are better of without him.
