Help me figure out the situation
Hi.I need some outside perspective because I'm struggling with uncertainty.
My boyfriend and I were doing well recently. On June 5, we were still having normal conversations, joking around, and he was being sweet. A few days later he became quieter, and then we had an argument on June 8.
Since then, he's been mostly silent. I've sent some vulnerable messages explaining how I feel, and he has seen them but hasn't responded.
What makes this difficult is that before all this happened, he had told me a lot of things he liked about me and the relationship. We had gone on dates, shared emotional moments, and I never felt like he didn't care. That's why the sudden silence is so confusing.
I've been reflecting on my own behavior too. I think when I get anxious, I push for answers and reassurance. He seems more likely to withdraw when overwhelmed. Looking back, I wonder if we got stuck in a cycle where I pushed harder as he pulled away.
The hardest part isn't even the possibility that he's upset. It's not knowing what's going on. If he simply said, "I need time" or "I'm hurt," I think I could handle that much better.
I'm not looking for predictions about what he's thinking. I'm mostly looking for perspectives from people who have been through something similar. How did you cope with the uncertainty? Did distance and silence always mean the relationship was over, or were there situations where things were repaired later?
I understand the confusion and I think it's dependent on the length of the relationship and the degree of the argument, some can ghost and disappear, others might be going through something or processing their response.
It's up to you, your next steps, I personally would take a breather for myself and focus on my needs, something to distract myself with and give some lightness to my thoughts.
If it's a new relationship, then I'd give a timeline. I don't like being messed around, so something like, I understand you need your space but as a couple we should have a basic communication level.
I'm going to give you 1/2 weeks in which I won't contact you and I hope you'll get in touch, but if not. I'm going to focus elsewhere, because my needs are important too.
@ScrabbleBrain But we've been really good as friends, and he wasn't like this before. Like we've years of history as friends, so I would've found out if he was like this early. It's really recent. Like the day before he got radio silent, he even complimented me.
@considerateField2476 Friendships and relationships are different, what you might talk to friends about, you might not necessarily confide to in a partner.
Unfortunately you can't make him talk to you, there's not much you can do. I just hope you can focus on something relaxing for a while.
Until this gets resolved, one way or another. It's respectful to be updated, even if it's brief. Noone wants to play guessing games.
What if it's a negative outcome and you've wasted time waiting? I hope that is not the case, sincerely but you don't know. :/
At least Cups is a safe space to vent but everyone has different experiences so it might not always be what you want to hear..
@ScrabbleBrain No it's okay. Thank you. I'm willing to wait a little. And then I'll ask him one last time and just call the relationship off.
@considerateField2476 You deserve peace of mind :)
