I don't know where I stand with my partner

My partner and I are coming up to 5 years now. We got together very young (16) and have honestly been through *** the past 5 years. His parents went through a messy divorce. His father is a narcissist, this often created issues and me and his father do not get on. His family have told lies about me to sway the opinions of others as they don't like me. I have made the decision to message his father to see if we can put everything behind us and start fresh, see if we can actually get to know each other and maybe even get on. I feel like I put a lot of effort in to making my partners life easier and into our relationship but I don't always get the same back.

We had a rather large fight a few months back where I said I'm not entirely sure I see us having a future together because I felt it was all a bit one sided. After this argument he told me he was planning on proposing and that I'd really upset him. We had a conversation and he agreed to try make more of an effort in our relationship (which he has tried). I guess I just don't really know how I feel about the proposal comment, he knows that that's what I really want, and I fear that he only said it in attempt for me to stay with him. It's been months and if I bring up the idea of a proposal now he seems like he has no interest in it. We have been stuck in the same position for most of our relationship and I'm ready to take the next steps but it feels like he's not all in. I guess I just don't know what to think of feel anymore and I feel as though I may be losing myself in this relationship. We have been through so much and my love for him is incredibly strong, I don't want to lose him but I just don't know what direction to go in.

If anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it

@bubbleTortoise719

you may be right the proposal comment could have been made as a carrot dangle to keep you in the relationship and even though you are very young .......

i think most relationships need a evaluation to see if both people are on same page and growth is happening...... you love him and seem to be willing to make concessions about his family etc but you need to see the big picture.
