Opening up

I absolutely adore my boyfriend. I would do anything for him. Except the one thing I can’t seem to do is open up to him. Anytime I try to open up, I end up emotionally shutting down. I start crying and I can’t get a complete thought together. I don’t know why I respond like that. It doesn’t make sense and I just want to be able to open up and talk to him. Any advice on how I can open up easier?

Don't (go around the bush) at what you are trying (subject/issue/ECT.) to open up communication/demonstration with BF. No judgement should be drawn, towards it.

unless it was something on the (oh.. O'), negative side, recently happened, then, if me I would ASAP,

Mistake in life is normal, nobody's perfect..

we grow as we muture in life.

Learn, from it,

Best of luck/wishes,

P.s. Common Example of similarl incident

::: if I am the BF. And my GF trying to talk/open up,

I see her crying, thoughts fall more towards,

it's not a good thing, topic, etc...

Hey @milkthemouse8, it's awesome to hear you've found someone that brings happiness to your life. It's unfortunate that what you shared is the response to sharing yourself with them.

I would try (the next you're alone) writing down a brief message or statement you would like to open up about. Then practice saying what you wrote, or read what you wrote in front of your boyfriend, or give your boyfriend what you wrote for him to read. Whichever you'd feel comfortable with.

Keeping them brief - one or two sentences- may also help with sharing yourself without prompting your "emotional shutting down". I hope this helps; Rooting for your progress!

Writing a note is really a good way to practice opening up (or writing a letter). What would you say to him? You don't need to give the note to any one after that. Notice how you feel while writing it. Name the feeling and acknowledge that it exists and know it is fine to have it. After you are finished, treat yourself good like as a reward or alternatively you can do breathing exercise or take a walk for refreshment. Hope it helps!

Hey there, hopefully you are doing well.

I have various questions about your post since it's a bit tough for me find out what's going on with just the information you shared.

1) Did you always had problems opening up to others? Is this something that often happened during your childhood as well?

2) What kind of physical and emotional sensation you get when you are about to open up?

3) Have people often minimized how you felt throughout your whole life?

4) Has your boyfriend ever been dismissive or perhaps avoided to communicate with you throughout the relationship?
