Are mutual friends true friends?
Hi all,
Last week, I reported a domestic violence situation with my ex-partner. It sometimes doesn't feel like I've done the right thing because I've lost friends during this time, friends that I met through my partner. While I suppose, it's clear that they might not have ever been my true friends, it still hurts. It's made it extremely difficult to push through. It makes me feel like I've done something wrong.
I valued one of the friendships dearly, so I reached out. She and her partner are currently housing my ex-partner, since he isn't allowed to live with me anymore. But, all she told me was that she didn't want to talk about anything with me anymore. She said it's affected her and her partner. They blocked me shortly after. It's heart-breaking because I think my ex-partner has been giving her false information.
I know I should really focus on the recovery, but I'm lost for words with this additional lost. I don't know how to pull myself out of dark headspaces. I've been trying to fill the silence with music and tv series, catching up with friends, but it only helps so much.
I'm so sorry, I'm sure that adds insult to injury. Unfortunately unhealthy people are all too ready to poison others against us. Sometimes they even begin undermining our reputation before they abuse us. I've personally lost mutual friends in a few unhealthy relationships, it definitely hurt.
I wish you strength and hope to move forward with your other friendships. I'm happy to hear you aren't isolating yourself! Take the care and time you need for yourself, give yourself permission to mourn those friends.
Hugs to you!
