My friend wrote this on her Twitter page that said Always in between wanting to post a lot on social media & wanting to delete all socials & be like that person you went to school with that you think of randomly & hope they’re doing well.

It sounds like they're sort of torn between two ways of approaching social media:

  1. Be really active, post a lot, pour a lot of time/energy into social media, and stay connected with people
  2. Decide that it isn't worthwhile, delete their accounts, and dedicate the time to something else--with the understanding that maybe they might not be as connected with friends as a result

So, they seem to have mixed feelings as far as whether their social media accounts feel like something helpful that they want to invest in or something that they'd be happier without.

@QuietMagic so wait you think she wants to be like someone who doesn't have any social media?

I think it's a little ambiguous how serious she is about it or how much she actually wants to do it. She could be split 50-50 between staying on social media vs. leaving, or it could be 70-30 or 30-70. The most I'd feel comfortable saying/assuming is that the thought of leaving sometimes crosses her mind.

I think maybe she's saying that the main way people often stay in touch and remember one another is that they see each other's posts on social media and interact there. If she were to decide to leave social media, she probably wouldn't be quite as connected with people.

People wouldn't stop liking her or vice versa, but she wouldn't be in their minds as much (because she wouldn't be interacting with them on social media). So her relationship with everyone else would become sort of like an old friend that you don't see or talk to very often, but when you do think of them it's like, "Oh yeah, that person exists--I hope that they're doing well."

Yes, if she leaves social media, she'd probably be less connected to her social circle than she currently is, if everybody else is on social media and that's the main way they stay in touch

That is kind of a phrase for the quiet kid in the class... like imagine there is someone that doesnt talk much in class... dont you ever just randomly think of that person, and wonder what they must be doing and wish them well in your head
