Feeling lonely

Hi! Well, I am a very shy and introverted person, so I don’t have many friends, (I actually have only 2). And any of those is from university, I am in 2 year and I haven’t been able to make friends there, so i feel alone. When I think that finally I’ve made a new friends the friendship doesn’t last or doesn’t advance. I don’t really know why because I am not a bad person and I don’t harm people (we don’t get angry, and we don’t have a bad ending or anything). It’s like that people get bored of me. I know that I don’t have good social skills because of my shyness and introversion.

What would you do?

Thanks for reading!

@Redfox124 I can understand it is not easy making friends especially in these times of pandemic. Even good friendships have been tested to their limits in some cases. But its great you have two friends - the closest circle of our true friends is always small.

I think the fact that you posted on here is a good sign that you wish to move out of the comfort zone and find new friends. As to people finding you boring - did different people specifically say this to you? Or did you assume it from their behaviour?

Do you sometimes have groupwork as part of your studies maybe it would help to start a friendship when you have something in common to do?

Although it can be hard to engage in activities - have you ever considered checking out what voluntary organisations are near you or on campus and volunteer some time or else find an activity group which revolves around something you like. I made most friends in university days from the volunteering and activism with local NGOs and some friendships remain to this day (many years after). Sometimes carrying out an activity with a particular aim can help subdue the introversion as there is a common goal.

You could also consider consulting the counselling services at your university and see if they can provide support with some sessions on skills that can help you with making friends. wishing you well and you can always also use the listener chat for 1to1 chats here should you need.

Hello.

I'm also an introvert and gets very nervous in large crowds. Back in University, I did not have one long-lasting friendship either. I joined a club at the University, in hopes to make new friends. Although I did meet some good people there, since I was an introvert, those people made the initiative to come chat with me. Then, once I got comfortable with their presence, I was able to open up more. Are there any clubs you can join at your University where you can meet others like you? Maybe something like a book club, or clubs where some students may also be an introvert looking for friendships too?

I find, at least for myself, it's a bit difficult finding good friendships in University. Everyone is so busy with their studies, getting good grades to graduate, that a lot of the times, they don't really have the time and energy to keep a friendship going. Yet, I do know many others who have found their significant other in University too.

If you long for a friendship, definitely don't give up finding that long-lasting one. Those that don't advance or last, it is not your problem. Everyone has different circumstances in their lives, maybe at that moment they don't connect with you. That's okay. Only in your second year, you still have time. Is there anyone in your classes you feel that you can connect with? Taking the same classes, might mean you have the same interests. That can be something the two of you can talk about. Friendships take effort on both ends to keep it going. I know that being an introvert makes it more difficult. I'm not sure about how it goes for you, but with myself, although as an introvert, once I feel comfortable around someone, with shared interests and something to talk about, I tend to become very talkative.

I hope you can find your comfort zone to create long-lasting friendships~
