Friend is Hurt
So my boyfriend broke up with me two weeks ago and I am absolutely devastated. I told two of my closest friends and my parents about it and that is it. I am still in shock and I think I am still trying to grasp it....I find it hard to talk about with people I THINK because talking about it makes it real, and I just generally feel super self-conscious about it. Anyway, an old roommate of mine asked me to go to a show on campus that my recent ex would be at and I could only give a flat no. I then told her it was because we had broken up and she was really shocked, then asked when it had happened. I told her 2 weeks and then she got upset that I hadn't told her despite the amount of time passing. Before she walked out and slammed my door, I told her it was hard for me to talk about. I understand it hurts when friends don't let you in, but this was something I wasn't comfortable sharing yet. I know she was going to find out eventually, so why delay tellling her and other people right? It made me feel really bad that I didn't tell her, but I also think I shouldn't have to feel bad for not wanting to share this information so soon? Anyone have experience with this, or other perspectives they could share? I just feel so confused and trying to look out for myselfbut I also don't want to be hurting other people when it could be avoided
I wouldn't fret over it. If she can't see that you're hurt, and that it's uncomfortable for you to talk about, she's not a friend. Friends are supposed to make you feel awesome and loved. Making you feel bad because you didn't share something personal is that friendly
