How to tell former friend the truth
Hi:
I cut things off with a friend who lives in my neighborhood nearly two years ago after realizing the friendship was one-sided as he's self-centered. I also found out not long after that this he is extremely manipulative and has caused trouble in our community. Therefore, I have gone not contact and I have been avoiding him. I didn't even tell him that I was cutting things off.
I ran into him last Friday at our mail center and he said "Good evening" to me before I said, "Hi" in a very cold tone. Then he said hi before attempting to ask me why I am so mad at him. I firmly said to him, "I'm not talking to you." The truth is, I am not mad at him instead I got an icky feeling being near him.
Basically, I stopped talking to him nearly two years because his house flooded and I had attempted to related to him by sharing a similar story. It was, "I don't care. I am trying to tell you about a stressful situation that I am going through and all you want to do is talk about yourself."
@Summershy So sorry to hear this.
Maybe try to make a new friend.
One that is a better fit for you.
I hope this helps you.

I want to give you an update regarding this ex friend. I ran into a couple of other people in my complex this morning and I shared my experience with them. They told me that I did the right thing while also agreeing that my former friend is toxic. From what they said, it sounds like he tries to him them in and so they keep telling him, "Don't talk to me," while putting their hand up.
