I can understand why she has trouble making new friends

I recently posted about an acquaintance who wants to get to know me.  The main reason is that she has been upset about not being able to make new friends.   Since I don't want to repeat myself, I recommend reading out my last post.

On the other hand, I tried being nice to this woman and respecting where she was coming from.  Still, she seemed to criticize me.  For example, I made some compliments based on her social media page.

I told her that I liked her hair and that she seemed like a neat person with some interesting posts.   Yet, she criticized me for that as well.

"Do me a favor and stop complimenting me because I have low self-esteem."

At that point, I acknowledged how she felt but also told her that I would like to get to know her but that's only if she doesn't keep criticizing everything I say.  I also said that I was not comfortable with the way that she's been treating me.

Based on our interactions, the way she acts and perceives everything probably turns others off.  I know that I am turned off as I feel that having a relationship with her would be toxic.  Trust me, I have had plenty of toxic friendships and don't need anymore.

@Delylah

I see your point.    I had a hard time with friends in high school myself let alone understanding what a friend was.   Yes, it's true that high school teachers don't recognize your feelings.   I got bullied by peers in special ed who kept claiming they were my friends.

However, the other woman and I are both out of high school.   I am in my early 40's while she's nearing her 40's.   I don't think she's a bad person. Rather, she's someone who finds something to complain about.
