Something wrong with me??
This isn't specific to friendships, but it happens the most often when I am trying to make friends. Ever since I was a child I have always heard "Wow, you're so nice. I'm shocked, before I thought you were stuck-up and mean. I thought you were really intimidating." (???) I know why this could happen. I am a tall girl and I like to wear dark clothes. I only smile if I am genuinely happy or amused (which is actually pretty often because there's always something funny). I have, in the words of everybody that knows me, a "resting b-word face". I never wear cutesy clothes, I prefer a more mature style. My sense of humor can be dark and I am very blunt (but I try not to be unkind!) I have high standards for everyone but most of all for myself. The thing is, the people who say these things are people I've often grown close to and been nice to from the start. Even when I'm out in public, like at bars and such, and not remotely in a bad mood, people recoil from my gaze and crowds part before me like the Red Sea. I know why these things probably happen, but I'm hurt that people can see these things as being bad and threatening when I don't have those intentions. Even when I try really hard to show I'm not scary. Even when I try to be friendly it often doesn't work. I smile and give compliments but I still hear the same thing. So it makes me want to not even bother. But if it keeps jerks away, maybe it's not 100% bad? Idk. Has anyone experienced this?

"Is there something wrong with me?" You are questioning yourself which is normal. I don't know much about your story and cannot make judgement and give you an advice on this. Only thing I can tell you, if you are not doing anything mean to people, you don't harm no one and you are kind to others then I think you have answered your own questions. Don't worry about people comments because you can never please everyone, people have high expectation and it's not your responsibility for people to be happy with you. Concentrate on yourself and work on yourself set goals and work towards achieving them and eventually once you love yourself people will come around.

Thank you so very much for your post!
I really enjoyed reading it! I for one think you are amazing, beautiful, just perfect as you are!
Maybe in this life time, the good people (you) are worth the time, they are worth getting to know! The people that are your friends thought you were worth the effort. I'm glad for them right about now! You don't sound like a glib person to me, a sugar coater, sounds as if you have values, standards, not someone to be disingenuous, a true "straight shooter".
I'm glad that you do what you want, you dress how you want to and you don't walk around in this life with a fake smile plastered on your face. In the end, you are being true to yourself and I'm guessing you are true to others. I hope your friends appreciate what they have! *hugs*

Yep, my whole life and people are confortable judging the book superficiously by its cover...a very extreme few go to the trouble to know your true core...
