Advice
I’ve been with my partner for 3 years, we’ve had our fair share of problems. I’ve caught him talking to other females and on dating sites and he has always said he thought we were over, we went on holiday last April and I caught him messaging another female but he quickly swiped the message away and instantly got defensive. We did get past this. However recently his changed, he started talking and messaging his ex and begging for her to meet him. He then came to me and begged me to help him get help for his issues. I agreed to stay upon him getting help, since this his blamed me for his action. We went out with his friends to a beer festival and I thought we had all had a good time but then as soon as we arrived home he accused me of flirty with his friends, he strangled me but then said he ment to do it in a sexual way. But I stupidly believed him and stayed. I told him the other day I no longer want to be in that relationship. His unable to change his behaviour and I fear his going to become more violent. He locked me in and took my phone off me, blocked my phone and threatened to set fire to the house because I wanted to leave. I agreed to stay and he apologised and said he was just scared.
I know I need to move on, I feel sorry for him though. I know his going through mental issues and he has other issues that need to be dealt with but he refuses. His told me he doesn’t love me so I really don’t understand why his trying to keep me around.

I appreciate you sharing and asking for help.
If you don’t have any RL people to support you through this, then keep coming back to 7cups. Depending on what country you live in, I recommend finding a domestic violence telephone number to get support. The local police can also help. How he treats you is not fair, it is not kind, and it is not love,
His violence and threats toward you are because he is cruel or he is afraid. If he is afraid, that is a problem inside of him, and nothing will help him unless he chooses to be helped. If he refuses to take care of his problem then he would be using you to avoid getting the help he needs. That would be a reason for him to keep you around.
Please get support for yourself, you deserve it. The 7cups community is here for you.
