Having trouble with a friend who keeps blowing up issues out of proportion. Likes to talk badly about people but has 0 understanding for others when they have a rough time. Completely fine with criticizing others behind their back, changes his tune when he feels like it and acts like their best friend, no problems, as long as he’s not involved but when he is, refuses all accountability and makes it look like he’s doing you a favor by calling you out but never admitting to any of his mistakes. Feels like he never actually hears anything being said to him just goes all sarcastic and says ooooh so it’s my fault and starts enumerating all the ways I make him feel bad instead of reflecting on what he’s done or trying to understand. I feel like I’m being completely gaslit. All of these instances were completely unprovoked and were just brought up suddenly. I’m starting to think he’s a terrible person.

That's not how a friend should behave.
Stand firm when you know you've nothing to apologise for and don't let him talk over you 💚

@Amada84 The whole conversation just starts to spiral when I do that though. I end up with a barrage of messages which I feel extend beyond the current issue and which I find unfair.

He doesn’t sound like a safe person. From my experience there can be a messy insecurity behind it. And it’s almost impossible to get through. It’s like anything can make that kind of person see you as a threat. They stop being rational and just blindly attack you until you break and they feel back in control.
@pinkCherry1616 never thought of it that way. Makes me sad because I thought this person was a good friend. Realizing now how he never really acknowledged he was in the wrong even when he was at fault. I always made it a point to communicate better but each attempt was met with so much hostility, I don’t really feel like maintaining the connection anymore.
