Cheating

I’ve been in a relationship for seven years. Recently, I discovered that my partner met a girl during a work trip, and then went back to see her about a month later. He hid things from me and lied about some details.

He says he regrets what he did and wants to rebuild our relationship, and I still love him. But since finding out, I’ve become obsessed with checking things, looking for clues and trying to understand exactly what happened.

I feel exhausted. I don’t know if I’m trying to find the truth or just hurting myself more. I’m scared I’ll never be able to trust him again.

Thank you for being open and sharing that. Being with someone for 7 years is a long time, and having that level of trust broken and finding out he was cheating is painful. Not knowing the full story and being in a relationship where you are constantly checking and unsure can be draining. It's understandable that you are feeling exhausted or unsure if you can trust again; it feels like the ultimate betrayal. Does he know about how hard this has been for you?
