Confused and conflicted

im trying to walk away from a 5 year relationship but am struggling to stop communicating. I am the one who ended things with my partner and suggested we stop communicating until we were able to speak in person. I wanted time to get my feelings and thoughts together to explain why I wanted to break up but He has been struggling with not talking to me and has been persistent in his efforts to talk so I just gave in and answer. I did not want to block him after we broke up because we are in a long distance relationship and I did not want him to feel like I just left him in the dark after saying I wanted to break up. I also was struggling with coming to terms if not talking to him as well. I’ve loved him for so long and going through this breakup over the phone has not been easy. Am I setting myself up for failure by communicating still?

@selfdisciplinedStrawberries2408 Relationships are hard enough; and long distance relationships can be even harder since it involves two people not physically there to be able to communicate the way they would like. I don't want to pry, because I am sure you have your valid reasons for wanting the relationship to end. Whatever your reasons are for wanting this break up, it is something you and him need to talk about. Honesty is the key here. Be honest without him and yourself regarding the reason for this breakup. 5 years is quite some time to be with someone and the love just doesn't end right then and there. Healing takes time. It is understandable for one or both parties to struggle with the whole contact thing. Perhaps, the talking needs to be done before ceasing attempts at communication. It is nice that you want to be cordial about everything and his efforts, but please don't feel pressured in responding to anyone who you don't want to. Your feelings and wishes matter too. I'm sorry he may not be taking things well right now, but you don't have to give in if this is not what you truly want to do. I wish you healing and him healing. I hope that you are are both able to move on and get past this difficult time. Take care and best of luck!
