Coping with an Estranged Family During The Holiday

Holiday season is ideally a downtime for us to relax and spend time with our dearest people e.g., family. However that is not always the case.

As the holiday is coming closer…

1. Who is the person or people you are looking forward to seeing during the holiday? What are the things that you like about them?

2. What's your tips to cope with an estranged family during the holidays?

Hi! So currently I'm not looking forward to Christmas holidays because it will just remind me of how lonely I am. I don't have real friends and my family is very estranged. 🥲 The only person I'm looking to see is my uncle but he's kinda old now and has loads of health problems so I probably will not even be able to see him💔

Tbh I don't have any good tips to cope with an estranged family during the holidays as I'm in the same situation but I think it's important to spend time on yourself , focus on yourself and self-care and just the things you like to feel better.

@23helicopters I am very sorry to hear that.

I would encourage you to, check out our Group Support Rooms, here at 7cups.

It might help you, to feel less lonely.

In the Group Support Rooms, members support other members.

Some members come looking for support.

Here is the link: 7cups.com/connect/groupChatrooms.php

I hope to see you in the rooms from time to time.

I hear you @23helicopters 🤍 I saw someone suggested to participate in group support here. Perhaps not much, but hopefully helps a bit. What do you think?

Also, you have a good point there. Spend time to rediscover ourselves and doing self-care activities would help. You got this helicopter 🤗

@ambitioushope1234 I believe there's a reason for your feelings toward your son. Whatever it is, your peace of mind matters to your overall health 🤍

@ouiCherie Family is always tricky during the holidays, so thank you for sharing this post.

1. Who is the person or people you are looking forward to seeing during the holiday? What are the things that you like about them? I look forward just to spending time with my immediate family. They love me unconditionally. I don't have time for this wishy washy-ness that comes from some other extended family members 😂

2. What's your tips to cope with an estranged family during the holidays? I try to limit the time I spend with family members that I am not super crazy about. It just makes the holidays miserable, so why waste the time? 😂

@fruityPond7887 I like your tip! We don't have to endure what we don't necessarily have to endure hehe...

@ouiCherie You got that right! Life is too short to put yourself in situations that make you sad! 😊

I'll be spending Christmas all by myself, like the last two years when my wife withdrew. She said last year last year was not our last Christmas together but, knowing her, I do not expect an invitation, and that's ok.

As for family, I haven't much of a family and have always stayed away from what I'd call required festivities.

I don't do "but they are family", or "but they are your parents".

If you want quality time with beloved ones, make time to do so. No matter whether it's Christmas or not.
