Dodging a bullet

I guess I'm kind of upset. I let my guard down and allowed this guy make me think he really liked me.

I noticed recently the pattern he'd been calling in. iIt suddenly turned into only answering when he was out of the house. Like clockwork.. On his way to work . During work.. And on the way home.

He said he'd recently started taking care of his kid so jIdidn't really think it was unusual... I guess giving him the benefit of the doubt.

The universe works in mysterious ways and by chance, I'd exchanged number with someone that was at the house he lived in often to get a flyer for an upcoming party. I never went to the party so never really hung out or saw that guy again after that.

Recently the guy started texting me "Hello beautifuls" and "good mornings" so I was under the impression he was trying to "holler* at me on the low. Which I sure he probably still is.. Let's be honest.

He randomly calls me today and I decided to pick up. My first question was what he was trying to do because he knew I was with.... We'll call him J.

ESsentially guy was very nice but explained to me that J had brought in a female (who I believe is his ex of 5 years) and they had been "playing house" withnot his kid... BUT HERS for the past few weeks. All the while, calling me with I miss yous and giving all kinds of stories of things that he was dealing with.

Jealousy isn't in my character, so I just again... Was giving the benefit of the doubt .

But then.. It got worse.. He further tells me that J beat up the ex girlfriend pretty bad and ran to avoid the cops (mind you I haven't heard from him in 4 days at this point and when I call, his phone was going to voicemail.as of yesterday. My guess is that hes either in jail or is keeping his phone off.

Look, I know I dodged a bullet. An abusive one at that... but for some reason I am still so mad and I think somewhat hurt. I hate when someone makes me feel dumb and he did exactly that. This also seems to be a trend in my dating life so a little POed that it's happened again.

I know there isn't any resolution to this but moving on and letting time heal. I guess I just dont have many friends to talk to so needed to get this out and stop it from swirling around in my brain.

Thanks for listening.

@Redsolocup87

It is good that you see you did dodge a bullet ......

I think from reading your post maybe you should not always give the benefit of the doubt so easily. I know when you like someone you want to act OK with their schedule etc but at a point when an excuse follows another it is time to prioritize yourself over short miss you catch up later calls...

All things i think you already know ....honestly the guy who was trying to talk to you did you a favor catching you up on the reality of your BF.

Yea I know it. I am definitely grateful for the phone call .. Regardless of what his original I tensions are.

I truly believe the that the universe (or God.. Whichever you believe in) was looking out for me when I exchanged numbers with this guy.

But you're right. I think I was waiting for something to happen as a definite sign because I didn't want to come off accusatory with little or no weight to my accusations because life happens (and if anyone knows that, it's me).

Anyway lessoned learned. Hope I do better next time.

Thank you again for your input.
