Do i have a right to know? Or nah?
My husband told me last night that his cousin expressed his opinion on me and it's pretty horrible. He only told me because it was brought up. His cousin saying that happened a while ago. I believe if someone is saying negative things about your partner then you should tell them. I believe they have a right to know. My husband says it's a private conversation and his cousin was just stating his opinion. He says i don't have a right to know what people say about me whether it's good or bad. He says he will only tell me if someone is talking *** and not if they're stating opinions.
@Dapperkiwi If it was a private conversation between him and his cousin then why did he feel he had to tell you that his opinion of you is horrible? It seems cruel to say something like that and then not elaborate. Why say anything about it at all? I hope he defended you at least!
@Dapperkiwi I can't imagine how you must feel. It must be horrible knowing your husband's cousin said some negative things about you and you not knowing exactly what it is. You wanting to know what was said and your husband keeping him and his cousin's talk private must put him in a very tough situation. 😞
I may be alone in thinking this and that's perfectly ok. While it's hurtful to have someone say not very nice things about you behind your back to another person, I do believe everyone is entitled to their opinions. Opinions are just that-- what someone thinks about you. Even if you knew what your husband's cousin said, what would that change? Would it fix anything? You mentioned the cousin said it was a while ago. Should the past stay in the past? Should your husband be in the situation of having to pick between family and wife? Opinions hold no weight, and just from reading your post it seems your husband may want to spare your feelings all while keeping what his cousin confided in him about you. Perhaps if it was way way way bad hurtful, horrible things and knocking you your husband would likely open up to you what was said. Because in my mind, who can just allow someone to trash talk the love of their life? Still, your husband has the right to do as he wishes. I'm hoping it's just to protect you.
In life there will always be people who do not like you. There will always be people who will not agree with what you say or do and that's 100% perfectly ok. That's life. If your husband's cousin doesn't like you, that's his right by choice and that's OK. It doesn't mean it won't hurt. Perhaps the not knowing what was said actually hurts more... who knows. At the end of the day, what matters is how you feel and think about you! ♡ As long as those are good positive things, you should be good to go. Keep moving forward in the right direction and take care! 😀
I wanted to add more info. I know what his cousin said. He claims that I'm toxic, manipulative, and going down the road towards abuse. He has these opinions because my husband claims I don't care about his wants and feelings. He thinks that because I express what I want/feel and we argue about it. 9 times out of 10 I will give him what he wants regardless of myself. My husband always chooses other people over me, he will fight tooth and nail defending his family when I say something negative but never defend me with anyone. My husband belittles me, mocks me, says mean things about me to me because he claims his opinions can't be mean. He got mad at me one day because he wanted to say a mean thing and decided against it and I asked him a few times to say it. He got angry and punched a hole in the wall while screaming at me. He told me what his cousin said because a few days ago his cousin said the same thing to me plus more horrible things so I already knew his cousin felt the way he does.
@Dapperkiwi Ohhh my, I'm so very sorry! This update with more information changes everything. Him not wanting to share wasn't about protecting your feelings. I'm so sorry to have read all that's going on. But what is taking place here is, in fact, domestic violence. This is abuse and it should have no place in a marriage. Marriages can't thrive with abuse, picking side, manipulation, yelling, provoking one another, etc. You also shouldn't always have to be the one to give in. Sacrifice is needed sometimes but where is the compromise? Whatever your husband calls you, his cousin calls you, you are what you answer to! Remember this please. ♡ I hope that things are able to get better for the both of you. Because from the read of this, negative opinions about you are the least of bigger issues. I hope that no matter what happens or what arguments you go through... he never puts his hands on you. I apologize to you truly. 😔
That's a big issue i have. I'm being painted as an abuser and yet my husband is so close to being one. It's crazy. Idk how to get him to understand because he words things in a way that makes me feel so wrong. I want him to be upset with his cousin for saying horrible things, I want him to defend me, I want him to cut his cousin off until he apologizes, I want him to prioritize me and our children over his family like I do.
