I can't stop lying to my boyfriend and I don't know why or how to stop.

Basically, me and my boyfriend have been together for a little over 2 years now and all throughout our relationship together I have always had problems with lying to him about my friends, for example my ex best friend and I would always do mean things behind his back and when it came to him hang with me and my friends I always felt like I needed my own friends and I wanted him to be separate from that. But after over a year of issues regarding me and my ex best friend being mean to him behind his back I stopped being friends with my best friend because I realized I wanted to really genuinely pursue my boyfriend. I had little to no friends after I dropped my best friend so l thought I was getting better with not lying to him about things with friends and such until recently when I first lied to him about me wanting him to meet my new friends. What really upset him though was that before I started recently hanging out with my new friends we had a talk and I promised him that he can meet my new friends when he came back from a trip he was going on, however when he came back I planned a hangout with a new friend and didn't want him to come along because me and my bf had been hanging out for a long time and I just wanted a small break but instead of saying that I was afraid of what he would think or say so I lied and said that I actually DID want him to hangout and see my friend when in reality I didn't want him to come along because I had been hanging out with him 24/7 since he got back from his trip. We got into a HUGE argument about it and we basically agreed that if I lied again having to do anything with my friends again that he would break up with me and I agreed because I really do love him so much and I do want him to meet my friends and I want to be honest. However today my new friend invited me to a pool party and instead of inviting him because I know he's really interesting into meeting my friends I told him that my friend invited me but I never said anything about him coming. That's until after he responded with "k" and I immediately got anxious and said that I would want him to come but he immediately knew I was just saying that because he said k and he was right but I continued to lie and make up excuses about how I want him to go but I didn't say it because I didn't know how he would feel blah blah but I eventually calmed down and realized I had lied again involving my friends and yet again we started to get into an I would want him to come but he immediately knew I was just saying that because he said k and he was right but I continued to lie and make up excuses about how I want him to go but I didn't say it because I didn't know how he would feel blah blah but I eventually calmed down and realized I had lied again involving my friends and yet again we started to get into an argument when he said I have to either pick him or my friends. For me it's a genuinely easy decision to make and I 100% pick him over my friends anyway but I also understand he didn't want it to come to this because he doesn't want to isolate me but he also just doesn't want to be lied to again with me and my friends. Now he's not answering my texts and I get he might want space but I'm just so mad at myself because we had JUST talked about me not lying to him ever again and breaking that and I did. I don't know why I lie or how to stop and I just feel so guilty and ashamed. I'm sorry this is really long..

@Finnwillflourish

Hi I am sorry you cannot stop lying to your bf. I am dealing with someone who lied to me and I cannot really understand the thought process behind it. It does not sound like you have done anything like cheating but you are betraying his trust.  I am just wondering if you can try to find a reason why within you, there has to be a reason why you are doing it.

As for the person I am seeing, there are other issues, the lying is just one aspect; all in all I just want to move on, and live my life in peace.

He keeps texting me, sending messages even after I told him how I feel about not wanting to be bothered. He also gaslights me and he thinks he's a good person. I caught him lying not just about one thing or situation and given everything else it just seems like he wants to control me to be with him and not let me live my life in peace.

So ask yourself, why are you doing this? Do you have some sort of insecurity?
