I think it’s about priorities and free will. That if something is important to someone they would act accordingly without needing someone telling them what needs to be done. They just feel what is right or wrong and act on it.

But also I’m not sure this applies to every aspect. What I mean by that is that communication is more important than this mindset, in my opinion, so if something is important for you, or you need something, be specific. Don’t expect the other one to do something you never told him about you need just because “if they wanted to, they would “ .

Hi Inky! 😊 ❤️ Thank you for creating this forum post and with such an amazing, thought provoking question!

While I would never want anyone to subjugate their thoughts or feelings on the topic for my own, I think that flexible thinking is a great thing to engage in, to consider many options.

For the most part, I subscribe to the "they would do it if they wanted to" mindset however, many things can be situationaly dependent upon that.

I feel as if I am a logical person, a reasonable person and I can understand if certain things just can't happen based on a variety of different scenarios/circumstances. I am kind to a fault and in fact am probably one of those types that give others wayyyyy too many chances and am quite patient with others. In addition, someone cannot give to me what it is, that they just do not have and I understand this.

Subscribing to the mindset of "they would do it if they wanted to" helps me as a human being to navigate relationships and whatever type of "ship" that may be. There is a saying that "once we have lost hope, we have lost everything". That can apply nicely to some circumstances however, with other situations, giving up and losing hope in others can be the very best thing that happened to us. We can then move on to better things knowing that we gave our best effort.

If one has made their wishes known, has asked for certain needs to be met and the other party consistently fails to meet those, it sounds like an issue to me. Either they didn't hear what it was you said (didn't listen at all) or they did hear what it was that you said, but simply didn't care. Either one of which is a very big problem. Over time, I don't have to stick around and figure out which one it was, lol 😊

Some things one shouldn't have to ask for, at all. If someone is not engaging with you, not paying attention to you, isn't "plugged into" the relationship, not carrying their weight and the relationship is unbalanced it's not a good feeling, at all. They would if they wanted to.

If they consistently come to you for their needs to be met (being a taker and you are the giver of all things good) and then cannot be found and just will not show up for you in the off chance you might be in need, it's good to consider if one is being taken advantage of and being used. They would if they wanted to.

Unfortunately, some people can be incredibly opportunistic and quite selfish. Their lack of self awareness and care for the needs of others can be incredibly disappointing. Being in a "ship" of this nature can be emotionally exhausting over time. Having the mindset of "they would if they wanted to" can help to know when it may be time to walk away from that "ship".

Leaving things or people that no longer serve us well can be wonderful. Getting rid of the negative provides space for the universe the opportunity to bring to us better things, better people, better circumstances into our lives.

Thankyou again for such an amazing and thought provoking question for us all today. I'm excited to hear others responses as well.

*high fives* 😊 and *hugs* ❤️

Personally, I do not agree with this. There are many things I have wanted to do, but I chose to not pursue because of issues with my self-esteem, pride, or fear getting in the way. I think it comes down to how deeply somebody meets themselves and how willing they are to accept and speak their truth.
