Looking for people to talk to, and seeking advice
Hi everyone, I'm struggling with a few things and looking for encouragement and advice on how to grow. I consider myself socially awkward and struggle with social queues.
I can get excited easily when talking about something, and fixate to such a degree that I'm stuck in a loop. I repeat the same information, just different ways. I don't notice it until the people I'm chatting with point it out or act a certain way, or get upset that I don't know when to stop talking. Then I become embarrassed to the point I want to dismiss myself from socializing all together.
I also struggle with stress, I find it challenging to overcome even small stressors and usually end up blowing things out of proportion and struggling to get myself grounded again. I've tried meditation but I can't seem to quiet my mind enough for that and instead find myself fixating on my stress which is counter productive.
As some with a mood disorder it took me a long time to find medication that helped me, so I used cannabis as my way to get rid of stress but now I feel like I try to use that too often as a coping mechanism and at times where it's not always appropriate to be under the influence. I'd like to find a different avenue that works for me.
These struggles have even started to impact my relationship, and I worry I could cause the end of an almost 7 year relationship because he's almost at a breaking point and I can't figure out how to overcome my issues.
Thanks for listening.
I'm sorry to hear you're struggling, but recognizing these issues is a brave first step. Self-awareness is vital for growth. For social interactions, perhaps consider joining support groups or therapy to build communication skills. For stress, diversify your coping strategies, like journaling or physical activity. Remember, seeking professional help, especially in relationships, can offer tailored guidance and strategies. 💛

Hello,Firstly, I want to commend you for opening up and sharing your struggles.
Social awkwardness and fixating on topics while talking are common issues. Practice and awareness can help you improve over time.
Managing stress can be tough, but exploring different relaxation methods like deep breathing, exercise, walks/trips to nature, or hobbies might be beneficial. It's positive that you're looking for healthier and different alternatives. What worked for the past you might not work for the present/future you.
Open and honest communication forms the foundation of strong relationships. Sharing your journey and challenges with your partner has the potential to deepen your connection. You might also want to gently inquire about his feelings on the matter. This approach is likely more fruitful than worrying about the uncertainty of his emotions.
Keep in mind that progress takes time, and seeking professional help is always an option. They could probably guide you through ways to handle the stress.
You're taking steps towards positive change, and that's truly commendable. 😊
Thank you for the words of encouragement everyone. It can be hard to reach out and seek advice. I struggle with asking for help as well, so this was a big first step for me. I appreciate you.
