Marriage breakdown

iv had the hardest week of my life. My husband of ten years told me it was over last week. Iv been living with my parents since. Things have moved very fast and I am obviously in shock and total denial. He has been very ‘nice’ about it for want of a better word and despite the heartbreak and devastation there has been no arguments so to speak. For me it is out of the blue. He has many smaller reasons but the over arching theme being my complete reliance on him for everything. Which I don’t dispute and know has been an issue for a number of years. I have no friends and no social activities. Abstained from all life decisions or management of finances, planning trips, car choices etc. I put this down to my low self confidence and anxiety. He says we have both been unhappy and unhealthy in our relationship for a while. Whilst he says he loves me and cares deeply for me he said there is nothing we are able to do to fix what is broken.

I disagree but that’s irrelevant. Regardless of his reasons he doesn’t want to continue in the marriage regardless of his very obvious hurt and pain also.

I’m only 33 and have been with him since I was 19. He’s 8 yrs my senior.

i don’t know what I’m asking for here, I suppose just writing I down is cathartic?

I feel I have lost my whole life, my home, iv rehomes some pets, my husband, my step daughter. It’s all an awful lot to cope with, im not sleeping or eating and can’t see a way forward alone.

we are meeting tomorrow to discuss a financial separation and establish some short term financial independence. I know I’ll find it extremely tough.

Just letting you all know I’m still here. I sent my letter and have had no response, which is what I asked for so I’m seeing that positively. Iv had a really tough week, iv gone back to work and have been living in the gym outside of work. Anything to keep my mind from wondering into a future alone and all the challenges that brings with it. If I let my mind go there I begin to enter panic attack and I just can’t let my mind go there right now. Just focussing on getting through each day. I haven’t had any contact with my husband for over a week now.

Thank you for giving us an update.

I don't know if it will help you, but I tried to drill into my mind about the possibility (now it will be my reality but I thought of it as a possibility when my mind couldn't take it either) of living by myself by chanting:

I'm going to live alone and be okay x 10 times

I will live alone and be okay x 10 times

I'm in a safe place x 10 times

I'm alone x 10 times

I'm safe x 10 times

At first, I just focused on being able to say it without thinking, like exercise for my mouth, but as reality hit I was able to imagine how it would be.

Now I also added:

I am capable x 10

I am resilient x 10

I am healing x10

I found those three lines on a thread somewhere on this website.

I used to wake up every hour at night from the fear of divorcing but I chanted those sentences and it helped me calm down with time.

Don't worry if it doesn't work for you.

There are plenty of other ways on the internet!
