My Ex - Wants way more from me than I want to give

My Ex-husband is my ex for a good reason. He wanted more from me than I was willing or able to give. I needed a life where I had my own sense of self and my own sense of autonomy. He didn't care what we did, as long as we did it together. If I said I needed some personal space, he gave me about 5 minutes and then was knocking on my door wanting to interact again. It was just too much. (that and other things that aren't related to this current topic, lol).

So we've been separated and divorced now for several years. We have kids together and we both want to be great parents for our kids. I am more than happy to communicate about kid stuff, parenting stuff, offer kid-related support, etc., but he seems to continually want more from me.

He says he doesn't know how to just be a parent, he also seems to want to be my best friend, to tell me everything about his life, and for me to tell him everything about my life.

Uh... personal space? boundaries? we are now divorced, for goodness sake!

Is this normal? Healthy? I have told him many times how I feel, and he may back off temporarily but he keeps coming back to wanting to stay actively involved in MY LIFE. This isn't about just being a good parent, he wants to be emotionally intimate friends.

I'm getting fed up with this, and then I somehow end up feeling guilty for ignoring him because he feels bad. This goes right back to why we're divorced in the first place. I know I am not responsible for his feelings. I have my own life under control now, and he is not part of it, other than being a co-parent. But every time we see each other, he desperately tries to get me back into his life.

I don't want to share my personal details with him. Any input here is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

@GoingInCircles365

I'm sorry that he has been unable to respect your boundaries.

Since you will be co-parenting with him involving a lot of future interactions, I'll share our self help guide on boundaries here - https://www.7cups.com/boundaries/

It has tips and methods towards setting and maintaining healthy boundaries in different kinds of relationships.

I hope you are able to soon build the fences to protect what you've worked so hard for, YOUR LIFE.

Much strength and peace to you!
