Needed to get this off my chest and hopefully get some advice

This is probably going to be a long one but here goes.

I've been in a relationship with my current partner for over a year (though we've known each other for 2 years now). We got close really quickly in the beginning but things only became official after 9 months of knowing each other.

He's caring not only towards me but puts in effort with my family as well, which I really appreciate. Dotes on me a lot. My family loves him and I'm pretty close with his as well.

There is just one catch - he is very flirty.

I might get hate or negative comments for this but on multiple occasions that I looked at his messages, I have found him texting other girls, in flirtatious manner, and even seen him telling them he's single / unwanted, just to keep them interested in talking to him.

I have tried to bring it up to him and tell him how it affects me (it was how my 2 previous relationships ended) and that this is considered cheating (to me). It always ends up with us quarrelling, him being unhappy that I looked at his phone / messages, invading his privacy and not trusting him... He apologises and said he might have crossed the line but continues to do it anyway.

At first during our quarrels, it was a lot of crying on my part, but I have collected myself together and stopped crying as much after he told me that he hates it when I cry as it is immature to him.

These days I choose to ask him as calmly as possible, why does he do this. He tells me that they are just friends, that he texts them because he's bored, and tries to reassure me that he loves me and they mean nothing to him.. He also says things like "I'm actually building connections so when I get my licence to be a Financial Advisor, they can be potential clients" and tells me not to overthink and that those girls will never be able to replace me.

I try my best not to think about it, not to check his messages and invade his privacy, tried to trust him.. but I think it's driving me a little crazy.

As an over thinker, I can't help but wonder if he's texting her when he brings his phone to the toilet, or when I'm asleep and he's not. Many different scenarios run through my mind when I'm alone.. and I constantly wonder if I'm not enough for him. I feel like a crazy person for asking him to post pictures of us on his social media so maybe when those girls see that he's attached they would leave him alone.

These days, as he is preparing for another body building competition and I'm unemployed, I have been helping him with his meal prep every day and it's draining me out, and I find myself getting drained out of energy (both physically and mentally) and often wonder if all of this is worth it.

Does the problem lie with me and my insecurities? Or can anyone out there explain why my partner is being like this? I really don't know what to do or think anymore.

@missychewy

It is understandable that you have doubts with this going on....

But the reality is how did going through his phone and messages especially when he feels you violated his privacy   help your situation?     IF he wanted to do something he knows now to hide it and lie about it..... right now he is telling you he is chatting and they mean nothing in a romantic way.... and you do not want to listen to that ....

 IF he is talking with someone even flirty he is getting something out of this.... for some it is a self esteem thing to know they are interesting even if they are with a partner.... some people need more boost to ego then they are getting out of their gf/bf.   His excuse about hoping to build a client list may or may not be valid depending on if they have money to be managed by an advisor but building a network is important in that field.

I think you need to work on you and not dwell on his every move. when you think you are overthinking anything... Imagine it in reverse....and you had other opposite sex friends or and they chatted with you.

It is easy to say that will never happen or i would never be flirty etc........... but for many people that is wide open to interpretation.   where  something said was taken as more then it was....

This is a  relationship communication item................ that you both are not understanding the other persons point of view... he listens to you but feels you are overreacting?   so he says" ok"  and just continues.... He told you he felt you invaded his privacy and he does not want you to go through his phone but you do it anyway.... lots of things to work on in that.

Thank you for the response and putting it logically for me in a point of view which I might never be able to see on my own.

What you said makes sense, but when I tell myself to try to work on myself and not dwell on it but when I'm alone my mind tends to wander off and the thoughts start flooding in, and I can't really help it.

I'm not sure if it's because I had a previous relationship of 3-4 years that ended because my ex told me he had started talking to someone else and felt that he wants to explore with others, and another relationship of 1-2 years ending when i was on my partner's phone (with him beside me looking at the phone together) and some girl's message popping up.

I have been an insecure, overweight girl for most of my life and am working on losing weight and being healthier.

I know those might sound like excuses or that I'm trying to defend myself but I thought I just needed to get it out there as well...

@missychewy

It is Ok to have doubts and your mind will wander but at a certain point your doubt or suspicions cause more trouble then they prevent.

When I say work on yourself it can be in many ways ..... the past bf experience while it does stick with you should not be held over the new BF like he is doing same thing..... many people do this  type of thing suspecting instead of trust and not showing the confidence that only a fool would do that to you.

I had to work on my confidence and self talk  too and i can tell you that confidence in yourself shines through.

I will try to work on my confidence and self esteem... maybe by overcoming my insecurities I will be able to dwell less on all those thoughts and be happier

@missychewy in my terms if you are  treated wrong by someone thats means  you have no value in there life if anyone valued you he treat you like he wanted to be  always be free to choose life partner  and dont be insecurity about you body  weight   if some like you they accept you all
