I recently was in a breakup with my partner. It is completely amicable and we still love each other. We are trying to set boundaries and be friends however it’s confusing because we still do the things we did when we were in a relationship although my ex partner has been stern about being only friends.

We’re not doing anything sexual. However it’s just so hard for me to accept that it’s not a relationship anymore and feels more like a break as opposed to a breakup. I don’t know if I’m wrong for feeling this way, and also I don’t know whether it is to fully move on or keep my feelings towards them because we both still have very strong feelings towards each other.

We have certain boundaries however they have told me that once we work on ourselves and lose the toxic pattern that we often keep coming back to later into our relationship, that they are leaving the door open if we do decide to get back together in the future…

So idk I’m just a bit lost, any advice helps. Thank you!

The idea of breaking up and still being friends is not let's do everything we did before hanging out, go places etc just not physical.

That sounds like more of a free to look around cause your just friends ...like having it both ways spending time with you and not being alone unless something else comes along.  The "we might get back together in future"  is like a backup plan.... you are worth more than that.

You posted They said to work on "toxic" patterns did you outline or discuss those.  patterns often arise out of continued actions labeling it does not change it only rooting out the core does.
