@communicativeApple9560 Notice and decide. Notice when thoughts of your ex come up. Say something to yourself like, “There is that thought again.” Just because a thought comes up doesn’t mean you have to engage in the next thought about the same topic, and the next, and the next. But it is often automatically how we get carried away in thought. Decide that you’ll try to focus your attention and thinking toward something else. None of this will work 100% well but if you keep trying eventually you may be able to let go.

Also breakup thoughts tend to be followed by things like, “I’ll never find another partner”, or “I’ll never find someone as good,” or something like that. Those thoughts are not true. If you need convincing they are not true you might want to find a CBT therapist to help you.

I hope this helps.

In many things we move on from we sometimes think what if .... or second guess it if we have for example not found another relationship or etc. there was a reason you broke up and a bad relationship or stressful relationship is NOT better the no relationship.

There is no right way to move on ..... like other poster said stop and think about why are these thoughts popping up ... am i lonely/ bored/ or worried about what is next.  once you identify the reasons you can deal with thoughts....
