Should I stop hoping after my break up?
My ex broke up with me a few days ago, right before my bday. We were fine a week and a half ago, and then he switched up and gave me silent treatment, eventually leading up to his break up. I called him and told him I didn’t understand and that I didn’t want to break up. He said it was the stress between me, his mom, and his sister.
I had stopped being friends with his sister a year ago because she would blow up in my face and start drama. Her mom usually sides with her. I told him that it was messed up that he did it this way and that he did it right before my bday that he promised he would go to. He then started to yell at me “yk what’s f***ed up, that I have to deal with the issues between you and my sister, and I tried to fix everything!”. He also said he wanted to “move forward” and that he “didn’t want this”. A week ago, he told me he loved me and that we should try to be good. The family wouldn’t let me see him unless I was apart of their family meetings, which every time was so uncomfortable and it just made the whole situation worse. I started crying on the phone and just hung up and blocked him on everything.
But before all that, we were totally fine and he was so nice. We would text and call every day, he would say he cared about me, etc. But I was the one putting in the most effort, making plans, getting him random gifts, and calling him. A few days before the break up (Halloween) I just stopped by his house and gave him two gifts and told him I loved him, since he was going on a trip that weekend. He mumbled it back, when before he would just say it. It was so weird to me that he switched up and a part of me is hoping he’ll just show up.
We did a jacket exchange, my friend went to drop it back and my ex’s dad was there. My friend told me that my ex was there too. I keep hoping that he’ll try to come back or get his friend to message, or just anything from him. I just need someone to give me clarification or like honest truth because although I know what he said on that call, I keep thinking he regrets it or still cares.
Other notes
*I don’t contact him bc I said I already blocked him
*The family is controlling and toxic
*The sister sent a voicemail to me saying I was wrecking their family ( I was barely at their house and didn’t do anything besides break the friendship off)
*The jacket exchange was just to get my jacket back, it was special beforehand

🥺
I'm sorry this happened to you.
You deserve someone who puts in as much energy as you.
Who loves you and cherishes you.
You don't deserve to be spoken to like that or caught up in horrible drama with his mother and sister.
It hurts now, but you deserve to heal and to find someone who puts you first 💜💖

I know how hard it is to let go when your heart still believes there’s a chance. But from what you’ve shared, his silence and the way he handled things show that he’s already stepped back. It’s not your fault; you gave your best, you loved deeply, and that says more about you than about how he treated you. Hope doesn’t have to mean hoping for him; it can mean hoping for yourself, for peace, healing, and someone who values you without confusion or silence.
