To move on I need to know if I was doing the right thing?
Me and my ex lived together alone in a different state than our family. He went to the mental hospital and his mom said she was gonna take him back home and didn’t want me talking to him or anything when they came back to my apartment so he doesn’t change his mind so he can get help. She immediately said where was I gonna go implying I couldn’t go back to her place and past me would’ve argued and tried to go but I didn’t wanna cross that boundary as me and my ex mom already not on good terms. My ex didn’t wanna speak or see me when he was in the hospital so I made plans to fly back to my mom in a state where a different ex is. Later my ex said I chose to fly out and be away and that it’s my fault we can’t be together when he literally lost everything and I didn’t have anything just a part time job and I suffer with mental health too. He said I shouldve known that he wanted me to stay but I know our relationship was toxic and that’s why he spiraled out even tho he said he loves me and I believe him but I know we needed time apart. He doesn’t trust me so that’s why he said we can never be together cuz I’m in a different state and he’s told me before that our relationship is like a squished water bottle that it would never be the same. Leading up to his attempt he reminded me I wasn’t what he wanted and the night before he attempted he physically hurt me again and cried and apologized and I said it was ok. I think I made the right choice in that moment and if he really loved me he would wait for me and see if things work out because we both have no money so there’s no way of me flying back to him unless I got a credit card or something but I would be driving back to our home state in the next week or so but he didn’t wanna wait. So he said he couldn’t do it anymore even when he said he would try and we would get married etc. literally after saying that 2 days later he said this wouldn’t work. We both have trust issues and I believe his would never go away. He sees my stories and tells me to stop hurting him by posting stuff and I see that as controlling and I’m trying to just do my own thing and be happy.
@Priscella
Priscella, I’m really sorry to hear about what you’re going through. It sounds like you’ve been in an incredibly challenging and painful situation. Your feelings and actions are completely understandable given the circumstances.
It’s important to acknowledge that you made the best decision for your own well-being and safety. It takes a lot of strength to recognize when a relationship is toxic and to take steps to protect yourself, even when it’s difficult and you still care about the person.
It’s clear that you care deeply for your ex, but it's also crucial to prioritize your mental health and safety. The fact that he hurt you and that you felt the need to leave shows that you were looking out for your own well-being, which is the right thing to do. It's not your fault that things didn't work out; you did what you needed to do to protect yourself.
His attempts to control your actions and the way he speaks to you are red flags. It’s important to focus on healing and finding your own happiness, independent of his demands. Trust and respect are foundational in any relationship, and it sounds like those elements were missing.
Remember, you deserve to be in a relationship where you feel safe, respected, and valued. It’s okay to take time apart to heal and to reflect on what you need in a relationship moving forward. Surround yourself with supportive friends and family who can help you through this tough time.
You deserve a partner who respects you and values your well-being. You will find someone who appreciates you for who you are, someone who will love you unconditionally and protect you. This person will bring peace instead of constant stress, and they will be strong for you when you need it most...
Trust that in time, you will build a life with someone who brings out the best in you and supports your happiness. You are not responsible for someone else. Sacrificing your happiness and safety for someone you love is not worth it. You can still love the person from a distance but live your best life without them
You’re strong for making the decisions you did, and it’s okay to seek happiness and peace for yourself. Take care and stay strong
This meant so much omg thank you for those kind words and helped my way of thinking during this situation. Thank you so much !
