Unmet expectations
I know they say that one definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting it to come out differently. But that worries me, because I don't want to lose my faith in people, or my ability to give the benefit of the doubt until wronged. So I just keep believing that things will be different and better, yet just keep getting burned because of allowing hope to let me start having good expectations. I don't want to become jaded or someone who just hates people, but how many times do I get stabbed in the back or led on only to be disappointed? At what point do I either give up trying to have friends or relationships, so I don't keep getting hurt.
It seems like there's a double standard, at least with all the people I try to get close to. It's okay for them if they lie or deceive or set an expectation and then rip it away at the last second, but if I'm not meeting every expectation for them, then it's terrible.
Why is it okay for a female to talk to a bunch of other guys and say they're just friends, but it's not okay for me to talk to my female friends even though they actually are just friends?
Why is it okay for them to tell half truths and to hide things from me, but if I simply forget one little detail in a big scenario, and later remember it and tell them, then I'm blamed for either lying then or lying now?
When am I just going to realize that I can't actually trust people and I can't actually be fully real, unless I'm okay with getting burned again?
At what point do I just decide to live my life alone for the rest of it, even though it would be lonely?
Why do people even set expectations if they're not going to then follow through?

I think many of us feel similarly..... it is hard to give the benefit of the doubt and be burned time and time again...
I would also agree with you on the double standard ...... And NO it is not ok .... people can have friends of different sex and talk without it being more.... seems like more women are overly sensitive as social media or whatever tells them to fear any interaction as cheating ..... that shows serious immaturity and no self confidence ..... that often leads to being a liar IMO
half truths or things omitted by purpose applies to both sides .... I think so many put up with others and not be their true self are unhappy and i will take lonely over unhappy.... I find speaking up and not playing along to appease everyone is the only way to have a life.
Call a person out on the double standard ....someone that told things then added other facts or whatever i asked them to write an email or text so no misunderstandings .......and then they KNEW i was calling them out on their half truth make it up BS ..... and in writing they could not change course.
Dealing with people is harder IMO then it use to be because too many no longer have personal responsibility.
