I'm alone for the first time after almost a year and a half, going through a breakup that was caused due to my own poor behaviors and being inconsiderate.

I want to learn how to love myself, to be myself and to become a better person for the future. I need to do this for me and be me, and not so involved with love because I learned it's good to grow and not sit waiting, because she will come back if she wants and won't if she doesn't.

Any advice on what to do? Things to try, advice, etc etc??

@n0tl1b3rty

Hi! I also went through a breakup a year and a half ago and have been single ever since. First, I want to commend you for acknowledging your role in your relationship's breakdown and for seeking self-improvement on your own terms. These actions show self-awareness that will serve you well in the long run, whether you find a new relationship soon or not.

As far as practical advice, I can only share what worked for me, so your mileage may vary. A couple months after my breakup, I started taking strength training classes at a local gym. This was partly to get over my ex, but also partly because he used to joke about me getting strong enough to carry him (probably because he was 5'9" and I'm only 5'2" lol). When I started, I was the weakest person in the class. I still can't lift as much as others, but the gym's environment is very supportive and lets everyone go at their own pace. However, I've definitely gotten stronger from month to month, and even my boss was impressed when he found out I achieved a personal record on my deadlifts. Most importantly, I FEEL better after a decent workout, which should be the primary motivation for starting a fitness routine (the bigger muscles and the ability to impress people are just bonuses).

@n0tl1b3rty whoops, just reread your post and realized that your relationship was a year and a half, and that the breakup was recent.

Hang in there! As cliche as it sounds, time really is a great healer. Remember that you had a life before your ex, so this proves that you can have a life after her. Best of luck on your journey to self improvement!
